Logo Design

The logos I created contain black and white to fit the “glamorous” aesthetic of my blog as well as to contrast the text from the background.

For all three, I put two different sizes for each shape as well made the strokes of the two shapes different sizes.

The font that was used portrays contrast by both the two different styles shown in the darker version of my logo but also the sizes of the font contrasts in all three.

In the third, I added a stroke to the white square present in the middle to allow for more of a contrast from the background and help separate from the busyness of the flowers as well as to separate the white fill of the square and the white fill of the background.

Image Trace

I personally enjoy the look of the image tracing and would definitely consider using it in my next project. I feel this would work very well for the logo requirement and work especially well when being incorporated with the style of patterns I have created for my most recent project. The look of the tracing is very organic and I feel that it would tie well into the organic style of the majority of my patterns for most use an artistic stroke. The tracing very much reminds me of a painting and give the feeling of it being hand drawn much like my patterns. The similarity in style would make this style of tracing a very good application to use for when I create my logo.

Name Your Brand

Fendi

Fendi is an Italian luxury fashion house that produces fur, ready-to-wear, leather goods, shoes, fragrances, eyewear, timepieces and accessories. Fendi was founded in 1925 in Rome and is known for its fur and fur accessories and for its leather goods such as a “Baguette.”

The reason I chose Fendi as my brand is because I very much enjoy the aesthetic of the brand. The colors used in their lines are most earth tones or more muted colors making them very wearable (not including the recent collaboration with Nicki Minaj). Even though the brand is “luxurious” the clothing and the accessories still appeal to the general audience. The pieces in their lines usually are simple but fashionable. I feel that this allows for the general audience to able to see their designs and see them as something they would also wear even though they are a luxury brand and appeal more to the upper class.

Trend Research

What colors and patterns will be emerging?

The colors that will be emerging are very muted natural colors. Sustainability will be a key concept. Pleated and folded forms will also be emerging focusing on the concept of hand-made over the machine-made. Along with this the growing conversation focused on body-inclusivity will inspire forms that will imitate the curves of the female body.

What new developments or trends in textiles will impact activewear?

The introduction of a chalky finish to interior designs could also affect the fashion industry by introducing a new “pattern” that can be used on different pieces. Plant based dyes are also predicted to gain popularity. Plant-derived materials will introduce new textures and new organic forms. The popularity of biodegradable and edible textiles will also begin to pick up pace.

How does this align with the culture of the Himba people?

The Himba people very much focus on living a life of simplicity as they are nomadic people. This is shown a the Himba women don’t wear much but traditional jewelry and pleated cloths around their waist. This ties in with the concept of sustainability and the focus on hand-made items and the focus on the female form.

Tongans are known for both their basket weaving and mat weaving. The mats usually contain a pattern around the perimiter and a larger picture in the middle. The colors are limited to reds, browns, and black. The baskets usually contain geometric patterns on the inside. The color palette is mostly brown and tan. They use color to help certain parts of their weaving to pop out from the other parts and bring the art to life.

Practice Makes Perfect

  1. Using a picture of water I found online, I pasted the cut out pictures of the ducky to make it appear they were floating in the water.

2. Using pictures of a beach ball and clip art of a girl in a bathing suit and and an inner tube that I found online, I cut out the pictures and pasted it to make it appear that the girl is playing on the beach.

3. After pasting multiple images of the sunflower to make a sunflower field, I used the paint brush to draw white and grey blobs and then smudged them to make them look like clouds.

4. After moving the the coat and hat from the wall to the door and going from two boots to five, I then used an image of a picture to put on the wall. I then found a picture of a rug and skewed it to make it appear as it was laying on the floor. Finally, I pasted a picture of a sleeping puppy on top of the rug.

Color Relationships

The color relationship that appealed to me was one from a triadic color relationship. I enjoy the look of the colors red, yellow, and blue because these colors appealed to me is because the colors feel very lively, innocent, balanced, young, and joyous. They give me a feeling of youth and happiness and remind me a lot of my childhood.
